It seems that the 2019/20 Chinese Women’s Volleyball Championship will be packed with American players. After Larson (Shanghai) and Dixon and Bartsch (Beijing), an experienced opposite hitter Destinee Hooker is the next player from the United States to join the strongest Asian national league, Ji Xuyuan wrote in his blog on Sina.
The 3 Chinese top division sides are interested in a 32-year-old former U.S. national team star, who has not been a member of the country’s national team since 2013 when she had disagreements with the head coach Karch Kiraly: Tianjin, Henan and Guangdong.
Interestingly, a one-time Olympian (Best Spiker of the tournament) and a 2-time FIVB World Grand Prix winner (one-time MVP) Hooker, already signed with one of these 3 clubs once in her career. In June 2015, the American joined Tianjin but only 2 months later, she canceled the contract after finding out to be pregnant.
There were rumors that Hooker might return to the U.S. national team for the 2016 Rio Olympics but it did not happen.
Hooker spent the last season playing with Osasco Voleibol Clube/Audax. The Brazilian club decided not to renew the contract with her.
