Mirka-Francia
The International Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Massachusetts, welcomed six new members, of which five spent their careers in an indoor volleyball and one in the beach volley.
These are: former players – Cuban Mirka Francia (gold medal in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, 1994 and 1998 FIVB World Championship, 1993 and 2000 FIVB World Grand Prix and 1999 FIVB World Cup, and Best Blocker of the 1999 FIVB World Cup), Russian Valentina Ogienko (gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and 1990 FIVB World Championship), Bulgarian Boris Gyuderov (Best Spiker at the 1956 FIVB World Championship and member of a Dream Team at the 1952 FIVB World Championship), Czech Josef Tesař (gold medal in the 1956 FIVB World Championship and 1948, 1955 and 1958 CEV European Championships), and former Bulgarian coach Vasil Simov (four Bulgarian championship titles with the women’s team of CSKA and three with the men’s).
As for the beach volleyball, Brazilian José Marco Melo “Zé Marco“ has been inducted in the IVHF, having won 1996, 1997 and 2000 FIVB World Tour and capturing 26 titles on the FIVB Tour – all between 1995 and 2000.
