The Queensland Pirates, top-seeded for the play-offs (10-0 in the regular season, 2-0 in the play-offs), won their fourth consecutive title in the Men’s Super League after a five-set victory over the No.2 Canberra Heat (8-2 regular season; 1-1 play-offs) in the do-or-die final match held in the Gold Coast City. The team from Brisbane won by a 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 15-9).
In the Women’s competition, the Melbourne Vipers bounced back from two sets down to defeat the Queensland Pirates and claim the seventh successive title: 3-2 (20-25, 28-30, 25-16, 25-15, 15-12). Despite having such a monstrous title streak, Melbourne were underdogs in the play-off final, which was also held in the Gold Coast City, knowing they finished the regular season as the second-placed with 7-3 (2-0 in the play-offs). Queensland were No.1 with 8-2 (1-1in play-offs).
