The Italian Men’s Volleyball League followed the decision of the Women’s League and suspended all activities because of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the biggest spread outside Asia. Both Iranian top divisions experienced the same fate.

Less than 24 hours after lights out at the Unipol Arena in Bologna where the Final Four of the Italian Men’s Cup was held and in which Cucine Lube Civitanova triumphed, the country’s volleyball federation (Fipav) issued a note, confirming that female championship is suspended and adding that male championship will also be included in the decision.

All volleyball activities in Italy are forbidden until March 1. The Fipav stressed that the decision was taken as a result of the various measures that are being taken in the government-institutional sphere. The Federation will also send a letter to the President of the European Volleyball Federation (CEV) Aleksandar Boričić regarding the participation of the Italian teams in the European cups.

The same happened in Iran. After the meeting with the representatives of the teams participating in men’s and women’s championship, the country’s federation (IRIVF) made a decision to suspend all matches until further.
