In just more than a month, the two important members of the Dutch women’s volleyball National Team decided to retire.

After Lonneke Slöetjes, one more key player of the National Team of the Netherlands decided to make a temporary break from volleyball. The 24-year-old Celeste Plak won’t compete until January 1, 2021. The outside hitter, who played 261 international matches for “Oranje” since 2012, wants to distance herself from the full-time life of the professional athlete.

“I’ve lost the real eagerness for playing volleyball for too long, and that’s not good. That eagerness is vital in our sport. I’m going to use the next six months to turn myself to society, while I’ll stay fit with the help of a personal trainer. In the end, I want to return strongly in the middle of the club season, in January, to make ‘holes’ in the floor,” Plak, the one-time CEV Champions League winner (2019 with Italy’s Igor Gorgonzola Novara), explained her decision.

Last season, she played in the Turkish league for Aydın Büyükşehir Belediyesi.
