AJM/FC Porto swept the final series of the 2020/21 Portuguese Women’s 1ª Divisão playoff finals against the record holders for the number of titles in the competition Leixões SC (18 titles) and secured the first-ever championship crown.
Even though they prevailed in all 3 encounters of the series, the top-seed Porto had to earn victories in the tie-break against the 3rd-seed side in 2 of those, including Game 3. Partially, it was 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 23-25, and 15-10. This way, the title streak of Leixões in the elite division (3 in a row) came to an end.
Brazilian veteran Renata Colombo ‘Renatinha’ top-scored Porto in the 3rd game with 19 points, while her compatriot Luana Gomes made as many as 7 blocks. Dominican Madeline Guillén highlighted the losing side with 30 points. Carina Moura set up 4 blocks. This was Porto’s 2nd trophy in club history. The other one also came to their showcase this season – the Super Cup.
