WCHJ W: Japan came back from 0-2 but Serbia held their nerves

Serbia overpowered Japan 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 16-25, 21-25, 15-10) in 113 minutes. Best scorers were Japan’s Arisa Inoue and Serbia’s Tijana Bošković with 24 points each.

Serbia jumped out for a comfortable 2-0 set lead with captain Bianka Buša on fire (12 points). However, the team of Japan coached by Yasuhiro Fukuda did not give up.

Led by outstanding libero Manami Kojima, the Asians displayed remarkable defence skills. In the fifth set, Serbia kept cool with an incredible 9-0 run from 0-2 to 9-2 and never looked back.

Serbia had 17 block winners while Japan scored 11 times from the service line.

Japan finish the first round with a 2-2 record while Serbia continue their campaign on Tuesday versus Thailand.

Best scorers of the match were Japan’s Arisa Inoue and Serbia’s Tijana Bošković with 24 points each.
