WCQ W: Cyprus women through to World Championship third round

On Sunday Cyprus beat Scotland 3:1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-22, and 25-21) to drop their only set in four matches and top the charts of the first-round qualifier for the 2014 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship – Pool G held this past weekend in Cospicua, Malta. Cyprus advances therefore to the third stage of the qualification process for next year’s World Championship that is scheduled for January 3-5, 2014.

San Marino completed their campaign by besting Luxembourg 3:2 (25-20, 26-28, 25-14, 18-25, and 15-11) to finish second while Scotland rounded out the top three after cruising past hosts Malta in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, and 26-24) in the very last match of the tournament.

Luxembourg and Malta did settle for fourth and fifth place at the end of a memorable weekend where most of the participating teams were celebrating their World Championship debut.
