They did this after finishing first and second respectively at the Africa sub-zone Group K qualifiers, that officially ended at African Bible College in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Coached by Vulindlela Moyo, the women topped their group winning all their matches.
They emphatically dispatched hosts Malawi 3-0, following it up with a narrow 3-2 win over second placed Zambia and finally making light work with a 3-1 win over Namibia to garner maximum points.
On the other hand, Artwell Gororo’s men kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 success over the hosts, before slumping 3-2 to eventual group winners Zambia and secured their progression with a 3-1 win over minnows Namibia.
Both teams now await the zonal qualifiers set for early October, with the men travelling to Botswana while the women travel to Zambia.
The top two winners will move to the final stage of the Africa Championships.
The 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships will be held in Poland, while the women’s version will be hosted by Italy.
