Canadian vs St. Lucia

Canada was sparked by Jaimie Thibeault and her 14 points. All but the Canadian libero, Janie Guimond, scored at least two points in the match. A trio of St. Lucia players – Natalie Edward, Lisa Casmine and Dania Hamilton – all scored five points.

Canada produced a 45-19 margin in kills and 9-2 advantage in aces against St. Lucia.

Canada concludes Pool C on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT versus Puerto Rico (1-0, 5 points).

Canada captain Brittney Page: “It was a nice way to work our way into the tournament for sure and just focus on ourselves. That was our biggest goal going into this was just to respond every time and focus on ourselves and what we’ve practiced.

Canada coach Arnd Ludwig: “We were a little nervous the whole game, especially the younger players. I think we’ve put that behind us in this first game and now we’re looking forward to the next match. I think our block is usually a little better. We did a few things with the block that I didn’t like. I think our serving and attack can improve a little as well.”

St. Lucia captain Natalie Edward: “I think a match like this points out our weaknesses and what we need to work on. Hopefully we take this match, go back home, practice and come back and play better next time.”

St. Lucia coach Florian Combie: “We got a lot more touches on the ball on the block than we have. What we learned from our last match and our session this morning showed an improvement in our blocking. Our reception still disappointed us.”
