Portugal appointed Rui Moreira as head coach of senior women’s national team, replacing Hugo Silva.
Moreira, who led Dentil/Praia Clube to a historic Brazilian Superliga title, will continue coaching the Brazilian club alongside his national team duties.
The new coach aims to secure qualification for the 2028 and 2030 European Championships, improve European League performances and pursue a historic World Championship appearance in 2029 or 2031.
Moreira previously coached Portugal’s youth national teams and served as senior team assistant in 2019. His domestic achievements include six trophies with AJM/FC Porto and ending Benfica’s 50-year wait for a national women’s title.
