“After hosting IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach two weeks ago for the final stage of the Women’s EuroVolley in Berlin, we were once again overwhelmed with pride as we were told that His Royal Highness Prince Frederik was going to attend the final match of the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley” says CEV President André Meyer. “We know the Crown Prince is a sportsman and his visit tonight does confirm the unique appeal of our major competitions where in recent times we have had the pleasure to host illustrious guests of honor” continues Mr. Meyer.
Crown Prince Frederik is an avid sportsman who ran marathons in New York, Paris, and Copenhagen and in 2013 turned into the very first royal person to complete an Ironman as he did so at the KMD Ironman Copenhagen. Prince Frederik was joined by CEV President André Meyer and by the President of the Russian Volleyball Federation, Mr. Stanislav Shevchenko, in awarding the gold medals to the members of Russia’s winning team captained by Sergey Makarov.
