Iran has suffered defeat in the opening match of the World Grand Champions Cup in Japan, but the head coach Julio Velasco is satisfied with the way how his team played all match against strong Brazilian team.

game

BRA vs IRI

Iran coach  Julio Velasco: I want to congratulate Brazil on their very good match. I show Brazil to my team many times to show them how to play good volleyball, so to go up against them was not easy in the beginning. I told them that we can’t surprise anyone anymore, and Brazil played very good tactics and defense against our attack. They caused our players to attack balls that they don’t want to attack. And I think our players suffered a lot because of this, not just technically but mentally also. But in the second part we improved in this regard, with more confidence, changing our attack more. I think in this match our players learned a lot for the future.

On facing the Italian team tomorrow: I saw part of Italy against Russia today, and Italy played very well. I hope we can improve our play under pressure. I think Italy will study us very well like Brazil, and we have to play well under pressure when the other team plays good tactics.

Iran captain Mir Saeid Marouflakrani: We have played one of the best teams in world. About the first two sets I have not much to say, but from the third set we started to play and came back. At the end of the fourth we had a chance to win, but made mistakes in our counter attack. Now we have to think about the next matches in this tournament.
