The men’s volleyball national team of Canada will be coached by a well-respected former player and Olympic medalist, Tuomas Sammelvuo.
Sammelvuo has been named the new head coach of the Canada Men’s National Team. The Finn is currently at the helm of the reigning European and Polish club champions, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
As an outside hitter, he previously played professionally in Europe and Asia, but also for his home country’s national team (1993 to 2010; appointed as captain in 1997). Sammelvuo formerly served as the Finland Men head coach but had the most success commanding the Russia Men’s National Team, triumphing in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and taking the silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The 46-year-old expert was named Volleyball Coach of the Year in his native nation in 2014 and 2021, among other coaching honors.
The men’s national team of Canada is presently ranked 15th in the world.
