Monopoly over: Russian federation allows clubs to freely collaborate with bookmakers

The Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) has lifted its monopoly with regard to collaborating with betting companies.

So far, the exclusive beneficiary of cooperation with sports bookmakers and their advertising in Russian volleyball has been the country’s federation, VFV. Clubs didn’t receive a penny from the contract with Pari (formerly Parimatch and Paribet), the title sponsor of the women’s and men’s Russian Championship, Superliga. The VFV had a contract with a sponsor, whose name was visible on the jerseys of men’s and women’s participants in the Superliga, as well as on courts. Now it has changed as clubs have been notified that they now have the right to independently conclude contracts with betting companies.

Previously, the VFV had an exclusive in this advertising category. Actually, it’s Pari who gave the green light for the clubs to cooperate with other betting companies but in coordination with the operator’s advertising layouts. Advertising of another bookmaker can be placed on the sleeves of the game uniforms, on LED panels, and on the official websites of the clubs.

Russian volleyball clubs got what clubs in other profitable sports leagues in the nation already had; in football, Russian Premier League clubs receive from betting partners from 35 million to 450 million rubles (half a million to 7.2 million USD) per season. In hockey, Kontinental Hockey League clubs get from 25 million to 100 million rubles (400,000 to 1.6 million USD). Probably, volleyball clubs will be able to count on contracts in the range of 10–15 million rubles per season (160,000–240,000 USD).
