Roberto Piazza has officially been appointed head coach of Iran’s national volleyball team, signing a two-year contract with the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF), with an option to extend for two more years.

In a formal ceremony held in Tehran, attended by federation president Milad Taghavi and media representatives, Piazza expressed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of renowned former coach Julio Velasco.
“Velasco revolutionized volleyball’s global image and brought the same vision to Italy. I aim to bring that transformative approach to Iran,” Piazza said. He emphasized rebuilding and advancing the team’s capabilities with the assistance of his Italian colleague Tomaso Totolo.
Acknowledging the wealth of talent in Iranian volleyball, Piazza highlighted his plan to maintain an open-door policy, giving every player a chance to contribute. “There is no fixed list. Every player and coach can have a role in this journey,” he stated.
The new head coach also addressed maintaining discipline and focus within the team, asserting, “Players must play, and coaches must coach. Together, we will aim for collective progress.”
Piazza succeeds Brazilian coach Mauricio Motta Paes and will officially commence his work in May, setting the stage for Iran’s next chapter in international volleyball.
