Just like in the WGP, Brazil was a defending champion, but unlike their colleagues in Omaha, they battled relentlessly against USA until the last point of the match.
It was the second gold medal for the United States in the history of the Pan American Games in women’s competition with the other taken also in Canada, in 1967 when the games took place in Winnipeg.
Nicole Fawcett finished with 21 points as the most efficient scorer for the winners. Krista Vansant contributed with 11.
Fernanda Garay Rodrigues topped Brazil with 20 points and Jaqueline Maria Pereira de Carvalho Endres was next with 10 for the silver medalists.
In the match for the bronze, the Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico in four sets to win its second medal in the history of the tournament after taking gold in 2003.
