This definitely isn’t a good year for the Russian volleyball. After male team was almost eliminated from the elite division of the World League (survived only beacuse of the change of rules), female team failed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics from the World Cup in Japan.

The defeat that cost Russia to drop the ticket to the Summer Olympic Games at WC was against China, yesterday. So, the win vs. Algeria in the final round worth nothing.

“Yesterday we had a bad day. We wanted to get rid of a bad atmosphere and today we made it. I thank my players for their effort and I believe that they have played at 100% here. A lot of the players left Russian team and now the younger generation has grown to replace them. All the top teams had their chances to win here, only a small difference separated the winners from the losers,” Russian head coach Yuriy Marichev said on the failure of his team to progress to the Olympics at this time.
