STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Tunisian coach – “Alekno, thank you for respecting my team”

After losing a tough and moreover, very important duel against Poland yesterday, Russia desperately needed a win at the World Cup in Japan to regain self-confidence. And it came. Tunisia was beaten in straight sets in Hamamatsu. But, one statement after the match pointed out the essence of sports in general, not only volleyball – RESPECT!

Firstly, Russian head coach Vladimir Alekno thanked Tunisian team for good resistance, especially in the third set, which was necessary for his team to improve and get better.

Afterwards, the expert on Tunisian bench, Fathi Mkaouar praised “Zbornaya” for not treating his players as outsiders.

“Congratulations to Russia. It’s an honor to have a match with Vladimir (Alekno), the coach of the Russian Olympic team and I want to thank him for respecting my team. He put out his first team and this was a big show of respect for us. He’s a professional and we thank him for that. It was a difficult game, but as I said before, we came here not only to play, but to learn and today, we learned a lot,” the head coach of Tunisia was honest.
