Magical night in Florence – Italy and Azerbaijan played in city square! (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Volleyball is a sport that brings many surprises and innovations. Volleyball match to be held outdoor? OK, it’s nothing new. For instance, Poland opened the last year’s World Championship with the game against Serbia on a football stadium. But, volleyball match in the city square – well, that’s new!

Last evening was the evening of great entertainment for the citizens of Florence, Italy. The volleyball was played on the Santa Croce Square, probably for the first time in history of volleyball at that kind of location.

The charming site was packed with 2,200 spectators on the mounting stands and more than 500 people around them. They have seen the Italian national team beating Azerbaijan 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17).

This event confirmed once again the great feeling of playing volleyball outdoor: on arenas, stadiums and now city squares.

Lucia Bosetti scored 12 points for the hosts. Polina Rahimova had 13 in the visiting team.

It was test for both, Italy and Azerbaijan, before their participation at the European Championship in the Netherlands and Belgium (September 26 – October 4).
