After Kenya, who last week announced their official withdrawal from the tournament, Egyptian Volleyball Federation announced that its Women’s National Team, which mostly consists of very young players, also won’t participate at the World Qualifiers.
“Most of our players will have exams in schools and universities and to prepare for this tournament, we would need at least two months of training. We tried to postpone these exams, but unfortunately we have not succeeded and parents also did not give their consent. To this, we should add travel costs, as well as the problem with the national championship and Cup calendar. We would need to postpone all games,” said the President of Egypt’s VF, Fouad Abdel Salam.
Egypt secured their spot at the World Qualifiers, which will be held in Puerto Rico, as the second placed at the African Qualifying Tournament (champions Cameroon go directly to Rio) next to third placed Kenya. Now, with the withdrawal of the two teams, only Puerto Rico and Colombia are confirmed for the tournament.
The fourth placed teams at the continental qualifiers are favorites to compete at the World Qualifying Tournament: Turkey (Europe), Canada (NORCECA), Venezuela (South America) and Algeria (Africa).
Turkey is the team with the highest FIVB ranking and thus, has the greatest chances to join World Qualifiers! We wait for the official info on this.
