Just like Earvin Ngapeth, current Poland national team head coach Vital Heynen is also well known for not having the slightest problem to speak openly. He was asked by Przegląd Sportowy reporter (the website for which Ngapeth gave his statement as well) to comment on Ngapeth’s words.
„I value him very much as a player who brings a lot of creativity to volleyball and is well-liked in teams in which he played. I am glad that he is not afraid to express his opinion openly. And that’s what freedom of speech is about. There are countries where it does not exist and one can go to prison for expressing his views. There are countries that do not give complete freedom to their citizens and this is how it is in Cuba, which Wilfredo left a few years ago. This is not emigration for work but to leave your family, relatives, and home to enjoy freedom, to travel without asking anyone for permission. He wants to play in the national team of the country he is associated with – he has a Polish wife, a child and has the right to have a Polish passport. This is not the choice of a club that will give you more opportunities to play, but a country that gives you the opportunity to function normally. This is proof of Poland’s enormous openness,“ the Belgian expert stated.
