“The goal is simple and very clear: we want to win gold” she says. “We have got a group of very promising players and I am sure that some will soon move up to the first group, the so-called A-Team. We did not perform that good last week at the Eltsin Cup in Ekaterinburg but it was nevertheless a very good way to prepare for the Universiade. We started out well but we lost focus and consistency. However, we feel ready to fight for our main tournament of the season which is coming up in Kazan” she adds.
Lukasik is one out of three players of Atom Trefl who were called to join the national team this summer together with Izabela Belcik and Zuzanna Efimienko. Together with Efimienko and Ukrainian-born Yulia Shelukhina, Lukasik will be one of three middle-blockers available for head coach Teun Buijs in the coming season.
“Each one of us will start at the same level and get the same opportunities to play and show her skills. We are set to play a huge number of games if you combine the national league, Poland’s Cup and the CEV Volleyball Champions League, so that’s why I think that our head coach will alternate us throughout the season. We are very strong when it comes to the middle-blocker position and I think this is a very good asset for our team” Lukasik stresses.
She hopes to be included into the group that will represent Poland at the FIVB World Grand Prix later this summer and is not afraid of a busy schedule. “I do what I love the most and so I do not need any extra motivation to work hard also in our training sessions. We finished the last couple of seasons with a gold medal and we want to show that this did not come just by chance. We want to win every single game we play and by doing that I will be showing my skills. The only thing that could make me feel I have fulfilled my career as Volleyball player would be an Olympic gold” she concludes.
