In a surprising turn of events in Polish women’s volleyball, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź has parted ways with Italian head coach Alessandro Chiappini. The club announced that former Polish national team player and recent MMA fighter Zbigniew Bartman will take over as head coach—despite having no prior coaching experience.
Bartman, who recently joined the club as a sports coordinator, will make his coaching debut on March 12 against Energa MKS Kalisz in a delayed TAURON Liga match. Despite ŁKS Commercecon’s strong season, currently sitting second in the league, the club gave no detailed explanation for Chiappini’s dismissal.
Meanwhile, speculation is growing that Chiappini may not remain unemployed for long, as reports suggest he could take over at KS Developres Rzeszów—the league leaders. The Slovakian coach Michal Mašek, who has led Rzeszów to an impressive season, might be on his way out despite winning the Polish Cup and suffering only two league defeats.
With the playoffs approaching, these unexpected coaching changes could significantly impact both teams’ title ambitions. Will these bold moves pay off, or will they disrupt team chemistry at a crucial moment? The answers will unfold in the coming weeks.
