It is a difficult moment for one of the biggest volleyball nations in the world…

The early elimination from the 2017 CEV Men’s Volleyball European Championship at home soil heavily brought down the fans of Poland. Media in this country wanted to hear some answers from the players and the staff – how come that one of the favorites for the gold medal, and also the hosts, managed to lose to Slovenia in the Playoffs (the 8th Finals) of EuroVolley. The players and the staff recognized the significance of the last night’s debacle and they all appeared in front of the reporters.

This is what Bartosz Kurek and Michał Kubiak said on this occasion, but what about the head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi? The Italian expert did not talk about his resignation and took the stand in defense of his players.

“It is certainly difficult at this point to approach this topic. Yesterday, as a team we tried, but we failed to win. Today, I had a meeting with my players, with the staff, I thanked them for the last few months of really hard and intensive work and great dedication. We are disappointed. Surely, after such a tournament there are a lot of thoughts, and a lot of time, to sum up our work. Surely, the results do not reflect how we worked, and with what intensity. This is a team sport and not mathematics to copy exactly what we have worked out on the field. I have to thank the whole volleyball world in Poland and the fans who have shown the enthusiasm. They gave us great satisfaction. We thank them for being with us,” De Giorgi said.
