The players of the top-seed and also defending champions Zaksa Kędzierzyn-Koźle were once again forced to squeeze out every last drop of sweat against a surprising semifinalists Indykpol AZS Olsztyn (No.5) to advance to the Plus Liga 2017/2018 playoff finals. It was a thriller in Game 1, so it was in Game 2. Even bigger thriller occurred in the second match as Zaksa made a comeback from 0-2 to 3-2, partially 19-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-11.
The Puerto Rican Maurice Torres topped Zaksa with 29 points (2 aces, 4 kill blocks). Paweł Zatorski made 76% reception (17 digs, 1 error, 41% perfect). In Olsztyn, the Czech Jan Hadrava scored 20 points (4 kill blocks), while the Dutchman Robbert Andringa recorded 5 kill blocks.
Not less drama was seen in Game 2 of the other semifinal between No.2 PGE Skra Bełchatów and No.3 Trefl Gdańsk. Both games of the series ended in the tie-break and Skra prevailed in both, advancing to the playoff finals for the 11th time in the club history, second in a row.
The Serbian Srećko Lisinac was the best scorer in Skra with 22 points, making 26 attack attempts, which is an incredible number of knowing the fact he acts as the middle blocker! His effectiveness was on a high level, 69%. Damian Schulz scored 26 points for Trefl. Piotr Nowakowski made 6 kill blocks.
