The rumor from a month ago has been confirmed – the new head coach of Zenit Saint-Petersburg is the Finnish expert Tuomas Sammelvuo.

Thus, Zenit hired a coach that was involved in their elimination from the playoff semifinals last season. Sammelvuo went all the way with Kuzbass Kemerovo, winning the first-ever national championship for the club from Siberia.

This summer was very successful for the Finnish coach as he led Russia men’s National Team to the gold medal in the FIVB Nations League and winning promotion to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Kuzbass did not find a replacement for Sammelvuo yet. Some Russian media speculate that Gheorghe Crețu will take over their bench. Last season, the Romanian expert coached Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, Poland.
