Russian media reported that Russia Men’s Volleyball national team head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo will take over Zenit Saint Petersburg. His current employer, All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV), denied that he signed, but...

The President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) Stanislav Shevchenko comfirmed that Sammelvuo is in talks with the Superliga club.

“I know that Zenit Saint Petersburg are negotiating with Tuomas (Sammelvuo), but I don’t know how did it end. We’re in contact with both the coach and Zenit, we’re in control of the situation. As far as I know, the contract hasn’t been signed yet,“ Shevchenko said for TASS.

A 43-year-old Finnish expert Sammelvuo has another employer, Kuzbass Kemerovo, at whose helm he has been since 2016. He led the team to a historic championship title last season. The Executive Director of the club Sergey Lomako also commented on the rumors of Sammelvuo’s transfer to Zenit.

“Tuomas Sammelvuo is still the head coach of Kuzbass Kemerovo. Everything else at the moment is a rumor. Sammelvuo is with us, he has a valid contract. We received no official announcements from either Tuomas or Zenit. According to the plan, Sammelvuo now works in the Russian team and then returns to work in our club,” Kuzbass official told RIA Novosti.

FIVB drastically reduces number of players per team in Nations League?

While I understand and appreciate the VNL organizers and investors want the best product on the floor everytime and all the time, each of these federations also have financial , logistical and athletic investments to consider and protect. The demands in time, travel and player health is seriously tested during this event.
This move of roster limitations is not healthy for the sport. Growth and experience within each Federation can be achieved through the VNL and expanded rosters. Here is where the next generation of stars can play side by side or against today's stars and deeper interest in each country's rosters can be generated. In addition, we all have to realize that we want to make sure the 12 teams competing at the Olympics are at full strength. This move actually hurts that possibility.
The VNL is a great tourney and still evolving in my opinion but this move is a step back. I sure hope they reverse this Reply

True heroes of continental Olympic qualifications: Grozer and Kim

CL M: Decimated by injuries, Trentino fall to Lube in all-Italian derby

Something is not working well within Trentino this season. They have the same team as last year but no results. Lube is weaker than last year (Sokolov and Stankovic left) and yet they play better. Leal is playing more and Juantorena is a top-notch professional despite his age of 35, but still. Reply
