The first round of the 2019/20 Russian Women’s Volleyball Championship regular season has started with a huge upset!

Proton-vs-Dinamo

Proton, who finished last season at the very bottom of the charts, defeated four-time consecutive champions Dinamo Moscow in the tie-break at the premiere of the new season in the Superliga: 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 19-25, 19-25, 15-13)!

The team from Balakovo, coached by the legendary expert Yuriy Marichev, was led by the summer recruit from Dinamo Kazan, Anastasiya Bavykina. The 27-year-old outside hitter tallied 23 points, while Irina Klimanova made 5 kill blocks. An experienced Yana Shcherban scored 20 points for Dinamo, whose head coach Aleksandr Sukomel did not use his major player Nataliya Goncharova until the third set, obviously thinking that his team will be able to break the resistance of underdogs much easier.
