Although the Russian government didn’t ban sporting events due to coronavirus pandemic but introduced some restrictions, of which the most important is that the presence of spectators isn’t allowed, the Ministry of Sports recommended the limitation of holding of competitions across the country from March 16. This was quite enough for Gazprom-Yugra to decide to withdraw from the playoffs of the 2019/20 Superliga Parimatch before the rematch against Dinamo Moscow that was scheduled for March 21. The team from the Russian capital prevailed in the first match by a 3-1.

“Taking into account all circumstances and being guided by the concern for the health of players, coaches and administrative staff, the Gazprom-Yugra volleyball club decided not to participate in the qualifying round match against Dinamo Moscow on March 21. This match was supposed to be the most important game of the season, also – the last official game of Dinamo in the Sports Palace on Lavochkina Street, completing the glorious long history of this volleyball venue. But today, unfortunately, we have to think about other, more important things. For the first time in the history of the club, we are forced to end the season with administrative measures, and not in a fight on the court. This decision was not easy, but it fully meets the challenges that our country and all of humanity are currently facing,“ the team from Surgut published.

Thus, Dinamo Moscow became the first participants of the Final Six that will determine the new champions.
