When they won the opening set against Zenit Saint Petersburg today, it seemed that Zenit-Kazan are on a good way to getting out of the huge crisis but the continuation of the big match showed they are far from it.

In Round 19 of the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Superliga Parimatch regular season, the team coached by Tuomas Sammelvuo prevailed by a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 27-25) and recorded the 8th consecutive win in the league. At the same time, Zenit-Kazan suffered a 7th defeat in 8 games in all competitions, the 4th successive defeat in Superliga, due to which they fell to fourth place in the charts (13-7 record). Viktor Poletaev highlighted the Saint Petersburg side with 18 points. Ivan Yakovlev and Ukrainian-Russian Dmytro Pashytskyy set up 4 blocks apiece.

Losing to Dinamo Moscow in straight sets, Kuzbass lost the leadership in the charts to Zenit Saint Petersburg. And not only the leadership. They fell to third place in the charts, while their rivals today claimed the vice-leadership. At the same time, the club from the Russian capital extended their own winning streak to 11 games in all competitions, 7 in the league, and broke Kuzbass’s 4-game run.

Led by Dmitriy Volkov (19 points, including 4 blocks), Fakel prolonged the negative momentum of the reigning champions Lokomotiv to 3 successive defeats.
