Recall, in December, 64-year-old Placi was diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent 26 days in the Central City Hospital Novy Urengoy. The coach was supposed to return to work in late January, but he didn’t have time to recover and decided not to risk his health.
Placi has been at the helm of Fakel since February 2017. Under his leadership, they won the Challenge Cup 2017, and also bronze medals at the 2019 Russian Championship and the 2018 FIVB World Club Championship.
Roman Yakovlev has been appointed acting head coach, and since December 5, he has been at the helm of the team. Fakel ranks 5th in the current Russian championship, winning 13 of 20 matches.
