The captain of the women’s volleyball national team of the Dominican Republic, Bethania de la Cruz, became some sort of a ’casualty’ of playing in the 2022 FIVB World Championship.
De La Cruz’s new term at Dinamo-Ak Bars won’t take place after all. According to BO Sport, the captain of the Dominican Republic National Team won’t wear the jersey of the Kazan side in the season 2022-23. The 35-year-old player was injured during the recent World Championship and has already undergone surgery. Given that recovery time is several months, the contract with the outside hitter won’t be activated. There’s no information on the nature of De la Cruz’s injury.
’The Big Beth’ was to return to Dinamo after two years as she was one of the main protagonists in winning the Russian Superliga title in the 2019-20 season. In recent seasons, the one-time MVP of the Pan-American Cup, NORCECA Championship, and Pan-American Games went through Athletes Unlimited, the professional league of the United States, being one of the stars and last season’s Individual Champion.
The other Dominican player that came to Dinamo at the same time as De la Cruz, the opposite, Gaila González, is expected to make her debut at the club soon.
