Zenit-Kazan won the 2022 Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup, defeating the Final Four hosts Fakel in the final in Novy Urengoy.
Zenit-Kazan ran over the home side Fakel in the final of the 2022 BETCITY Russian Men’s Cup (БЕТСИТИ Кубок России-2022): 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-21). It was an easy job for the Tatarstan giants and its dominance in the decider can be best portrayed with the fact that they took the second set by an 11-point margin.
Zenit-Kazan won the Russian Cup for the 11th time in the history of competitions and the eighth in the last nine years: 2004, 2007, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Their only failed attempt to put on the crown after the final appearance was in 2012, when they lost to Belogorie. Fakel played in the final for only the second time in history. In 2006, the team lost to Dinamo Moscow.
Dmitriy Volkov was Zenit-Kazan’s top scorer in the decider with 18 points through a 76% attack (16/21). However, his teammate Maksim Mikhaylov was named MVP of the Final Four (the fourth Russian Cup MVP award in his career). An experienced opposite tallied 17 points in the semi-finals and 16 points in the final through 83% of the implementation of attacks (15/18).
