In a nail-biting volleyball showdown, Zenit St. Petersburg edged out Kuzbass Kemerovo with a final score of 3-2, in a match that extended to five sets (21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 9-15). The game started off rocky for Kuzbass as early errors led to a 3-9 deficit, from which they struggled to recover despite notable efforts from Asparuh Asparuhov and Slavi Kostadinov.
Kuzbass managed to turn the tables in the second and third sets with impressive plays, including consecutive aces by Kostadinov and critical blocks against Zenit’s attacks. However, Zenit showcased their resilience, bouncing back in the fourth set and ultimately clinching the match in the tiebreaker, thanks to strong performances by Uladzislau Babkevich and Fiodor Voronkov. Dusan Petkovic stood out for Kuzbass as the team’s leading scorer, amassing 24 points, but despite his standout performance, it was not enough to clinch a win in the fiercely contested match. On the victorious side, Uladzislau Babkevich led his team and emerged as the game’s highest scorer with 29 points.
In another match of the day, Zenit Kazan triumphed over Gazprom Yugra, winning in straight sets.
