Zenit filed an application for the Final Four in the spring of 2014, but the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) gave the organization to Berlin.
“To be honest, we knew in advance that we had a little chance. Two years ago, the Final Four was held in Omsk. When we applied for it, we had hope to be the hosts, but in our heart we knew there’s a worthy competitor and it would be difficult to the get the right to organize the Champions League final tournament,” said Zenit’s libero Alexey Verbov to “R-Sport”.
The rival of Zenit in the Champions League playoff will be the Italian Copra Piacenza. The winner of this pair will play in the “Round 6” against the better one from Belogorie Belgorod – Halkbank Ankara clash.
