President of the Russian Volleyball Federation Stanislav Shevchenko told “Tass” that the Russian Sports Minister Vitaliy Mutko supported Alekno’s candidacy and will approve his appointment on July 17.
Alekno led the national team to gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and to bronze of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He was at the helm led of Russia in the season 2007/2008 as well as from 2010 to December of 2012.
Alexander Klimkin took the duty of acting head coach in the last two matches against of Iran.
