Yumilka Ruíz Luaces, the player of Russian Uralochka-NTMK Sverdlovskaya oblast since 2012, had to retire on the advice of doctors.

Legendary Cuban receiver/spiker sustained a serious knee injury in November 2014, in the match of the CEV Challenge Cup.

After surgery, Ruíz planned return to the court, but doctors banned her as there was a great threat that the injury will return.

Now, she will concentrate on the job in the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee where she was elected in 2008.

Ruíz holds the record of the Russian championships in the number of points in a single match. When she was wearing the jersey of Uralochka in her first mandate (2004/2005) she ended the match against Dinamo Moscow with 53 points on her account, in January 20, 2005.

During her career in the Cuban NT she took eight gold medals as well as five individual awards.
