Serbia
After downing Russia in Round 1 of Pool C, Serbia prevailed over reigning world champions Poland 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23), in Kaliningrad’s Round 3 clash.
Poland, without Kurek, Kubiak and several other big names, were not worthy opponents to Serbia’s National Team who has seriously prepared for the tournament. Since they do not need to time their form for the Rio Olympics, Serbia put all cards on the World League.
The only set when Poland had some chance was the third when they were close 19-19, 21-20. But as soon as Nikola Grbić’s wards re-established the lead, it was all over. Aleksandar Atanasijević scored 16 points for Serbia. Dawid Konarski noted 10 in Poland.
Serbia finished the first weekend with 3-0 record, while Poland have 1-2.
