Serbia’s fans have double reason for celebration in one day – their male national team followed footsteps of Women’s NT and downed giants in the first round of FIVB World League – Group 1!

After female NT of Serbia made a thrilling comeback against Brazil in 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix, their male colleagues swept Russia in straight sets, partially 25-22, 34-32, 25-17, in Pool C derby.

Even without their main attacking power, the opposite Aleksandar Atanasijević (did not play by coach’s decision), Serbia demonstrated power against „Zbornaya“ on rival’s court in Kaliningrad.

Thanks to sacrifice in defense and amazing middle blocker Srećko Lisinac in attack (14 points), Nikola Grbić’s wards made huge upset at start of the tournament. On the other side, Egor Kliuka was the only player with double digits – 10 points.

Brazil showed another monster performance, achieving the second win in Pool B, in Rio de Janeiro. Players coached by Bernardo Rezende beat fierce rivals from South America, Argentina, 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 26-24).

Ricardo Lucarelli topped Brazil’s scorers with 19 points. Cristian Poglajen had nine in Argentina.
