Besides playing as middle blocker all of his career, Muserskiy was occasionally used as opposite hitter, which is the position where his height and high spike touch can come to the fore. The 2012 London Olympics is the best proof. Russian Men’s National Team was trailing 2-0 in sets in gold medal match against Brazil when coach Vladimir Alekno moved Muserksiy from middle blocker position to opposite. The rest is history. Russia made turnaround and took the gold mostly thanks to this little experiment by Alekno. Aleksandr Kosarev, coach of Belogorie Belogorie, decided to restore it in Round 11 of Superliga against Dinamo Krasnodar, yesterday.
And, it again proved to be successful. Muserskiy started the match as blocker but was moved to opposite later… and finished as the best scorer of Belogorie with 16 points!
