Newly appointed head coach of the Russian Women’s Volleyball National Team, Vladimir Kuzyutkin, will have a difficult task to make it strong again and erase failure in the 2016 Rio Olympics from the minds of the fans in the country.

Kuzyutkin closely observe this season’s decisive matches in Superliga and CEV Champions League in order to form a group of players that will bring back the glory to Women’s ‘Zbornaya’. It seems this group will be made without two major stars, at least at the start of the season for the national teams.

“First of all, let’s clearly set priorities, which tournaments will be primary for us this year and which are auxiliary ones, or, as I called them ‘amusing’. These are tournaments like the World Grand Prix. We will try to play as best as possible but to win it by all means, at any cost – it is not worth it. It is more important to see as many candidates as possible in matches with the strongest teams, to see which of them are really capable of defending the honor of the country,” Kuzyutkin said for championat.com.

“Therefore, I can say with confidence that I do not plan to include our two leaders – Nataliya Goncharova and Tatyana Kosheleva – in the Grand Prix team. By the way, the same Kosheleva reacted peculiarly to my proposal to rest by saying: ‘Of course, it’s good to rest, but such a long break is even harmful for me.’ I do not doubt that the same opinion is shared by Goncharova. It is also important that all the girls, and with most of them I came in contact while working in previous years, express sympathy with my return to the Russian National Team,” new head coach of Russia added.
