After struggling in the first round against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, Zenit showed power against Yugra, finishing with straight-set win, partially 25-17, 25-14, 25-22. Maksim Mikhailov scored 19 points for the winners, while Aleksandr Chefranov had 13 for Yugra. Thus, the 2017 CEV European Championship winners Zenit won five points and took first place in Pool A, while Lokomotiv ended second with four points.
As for Pool B, Dinamo Moscow suffered defeat to Fakel Novy Urengoy, but managed to advance to the semis, 3-1 (31-29, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18). Dmitriy Volkov noted 19 points for Fakel. Yuriy Berezhko scored 16 for Dinamo.
Interestingly, all three teams in Pool B collected three points but Dinamo and Belogorie Belgorod claimed first and second places, respectively, due to the best set-ratio.
