Omichka OMSK overcame Igtisadchi BAKU and advanced to 1/4 finals of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. “Today we played very bad, especially in reception. Our spikers did not do what they were supposed to do and the result is the obvious consequence” said Igtisadchi head coach Bulent Karslioglu.

Congratulations to my players because this was a very difficult match against a strong opponent” said Omichka mentor Zoran Terzic. “I am very happy with the result and this win is extremely important before we play the semifinal stage of the national cup in Krasnoyarsk. In some phases of the match we did not show good quality in reception, so we have to work on this fundamental”.

Middle blocker Yuliya Podskalnaya adds: “I think this victory does not come as a surprise. We started out knowing we needed a victory to make it to the next round. We played very good for some sections of the match especially as we had analyzed our mistakes from the previous clash in Baku. I always believed in our chances because I feel like we are stronger than Igtisadchi”.

Today we played as good as we can, fighting for every point” stresses Natalya Mammadova. “We were asked to reduce our errors to a minimum and we did so. I think we played as a team and we did it well. Our next opponent will be once again a team from Baku. I know their players very well as they have a mixture of members from the Azeri national team and foreigners. They will try it hard to win but I think we can make it to the Challenge Round”.
