RUS M: Zenit Kazan teach Zenit St. Petersburg a lesson in Game 1 of playoff finals

Zenit Kazan defeated Zenit Sankt-Peterburg in Game 1 of the 2017/18 Russian men’s volleyball championship Superliga playoff finals.

Zenit Sankt-Peterburg was the only team not having a negative record against Zenit Kazan this season (2-2 counting all tournaments) but it changed tonight.

The defending champions and also No.1 Zenit Kazan scored a straight-set win over fifth-seed Zenit Sankt-Peterburg at home in Game 1 of the best-of-five 2017/18 Superliga playoff finals. Partially, it was 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.

The Cuban Wilfredo León tallied 18 points (2 aces, 3 kill blocks) for Zenit Kazan, while Artem Volvich added 6 kill blocks. In Zenit Sankt-Peterburg, Serbian Dražen Luburić scored 11 points. Artem Zelenkov made 73% reception (11 digs, 45% excellent).

Game 2, in which Zenit Kazan will be the hosts again, is scheduled for tomorrow, April 21.
