Game 5 should have been the toughest of all games in the 2017/18 VolleyLigaen playoff finals but it turned to be the easiest for the side who emerged as the winner. The top-seed Gentofte Volley swept third-seed Middelfart VK by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) to close the series with a 3-2 and clinch their sixth title in the club history, the third in the last four seasons.

Peter Trolle Bonnessen of Gentofte crowned an amazing season, in which he topped VolleyLigaen scorers with 388 points, by delivering 22 tonight. Nicholas Hunt scored 21 points for Middelfart, while Nikolaj Hjorth made 71% reception (14 digs, 14% perfect).

„Although the numbers say 3-0, it was not an easy match. We needed five matches to win the championship. In my opinion, Denmark’s two best teams were meeting each other in the final. Middelfart was good and they secured the best possible finals. These are two very young teams and it is good for the Danish volleyball to get so exciting final series and the end of the season,Gentofte coach Denis Janka stated.
