In the semifinals, Venezuela outplayed Argentina 3-2 (26-24, 15-25, 24-26, 26-24,15-12) and that was unexpected result. Venezuela will play in the final after 2003.
In the second semifinals, Brazil were too strong for Chile, the match was finished in three sets 25-20, 25-12, 25-14. Brazilians will play for their 31st gold medal. In the history of this competition from 31 championships, they won 30 gold medals and one silver (1964).
