In the finals of the 2018 South American Club Championship, hosted by the Brazilian side Montes Claros Vôlei, Sada Cruzeiro swept Argentinean Lomas Vóley by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) to win their fifth gold medal in the tournament, third in a row. Thus, Cruzeiro leveled with the two teams from their country who claimed the title five times as well: Esporte Clube Banespa and Club Athletico Paulistano.
The match was held in front of nearly packed stands at Tancredo Neves gymnasium in Montes Claros (4,000 spectators) and was preceded by the bronze medal encounter in which the home side defeated Argentinean titleholders Personal Bolívar by a 3-1 (28-30, 25-23, 25-23, 25-15).
