In a repeat of the last season’s play-off semifinals, Fenerbahçe hosted VakıfBank in Round 5 of the 2019/20 Vestel Venus Sultanlar Ligi regular season and inflicted first defeat to the champions. The “Yellow Angles“ had the driving force in their fans who filled the stands at the Burhan Felek hall in Istanbul quite well. As much as 4,500 spectators, which is a significant digit for the women’s volleyball in Turkey, saw their team writing down fourth success this season: 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22). Serbian Brankica Mihajlović top-scored for Fenerbahçe with 17 points, including 4 kill blocks, while Eda Erdem Dündar made 5 kill blocks. The Swede Isabella Haak scored 14 points (4 aces) for the losing side. Zehra Güneş set up 8 kill blocks!
This round of the Sultanlar Ligi has brought another repeat of the last season’s play-off semifinals in which Eczacıbaşı VitrA prevailed over Galatasaray HDI Sigorta with 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 20-25, 25-21) and remained the only unbeaten side in the league (5-0). Serbian Tijana Bošković and South Korean Kim Yeon-Koung led the winning team with 16 points apiece. Aslı Kalaç chipped in 15 points (4 kill blocks) for Galatasaray who suffered their first loss this season.
Thanks to a foreign duo that joined the team this summer Rousseaux – Zhidkova, Nilüfer Belediyespor recorded their first win. Both Belgian and Azerbaijani tallied 20 points as their side defeated Turkish Airlines (Türk Hava Yolları) at home in the tie-break. Hümay Topaloğlu served 4 aces, while Buse Ünal made 5 kill blocks. As for THY, the Czech Aneta Havlíčková scored 23 points, Özge Kırdar Kinasts served 4 aces and Özgenur Yurtdagülen set up 6 kill blocks.
Beylikdüzü Voleybol İhtisas got embarrassed by scoring only 4 points in the fourth set in the match against AtlasGlobal Yeşilyurt!
