After their women’s team finished fourth last year, the men of Galatasaray ISTANBUL are debuting this season in Europe’s elite club competition, the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. With about one week to go for their season’s opener, they discussed their goals and feelings at a press conference held at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall in Turkey’s megalopolis.

The meeting with the media was attended by team manager Murat Ersoy, head coach Resat Arig, team captain Sinan Cem Tanik and middle-blocker Ibrahim Emet.

“This is the first time Galatasaray plays this competition and this applies also to the majority of our players. This is surely going to be a great experience for us all” said head coach Resat Arig. Galatasaray was assigned by the DOL to Pool G together with Knack ROESELARE, Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE, and VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN. “All other teams starring in this group have played in the Champions League before, so we are the rookie and underdog. However, we have been working hard for this debut and I am sure that with the help of our fans we will be able to live up to the international reputation of Galatasaray”.

“Since we lack experience at this level we are not the favourites in this group” added team captain Sinan Cem Tanik. “However, if we look at the history, there have been teams that were able to achieve good results even by their first appearance. If we keep calm and control our emotions, I think we will be able to make our club and fans proud of the Galatasaray men’s Volleyball team”.
